Description:
The service is led by Revd Canon Peter Wells, Senior Chaplain, Brighton & Sussex University Hospitals NHS Trust. The programme includes remembering Martin as a colleague, a friend and a doctor. The Martin Fisher Foundation is also being established to help keep Martin’s name and legacy alive for future generations.
Martin Fisher was a professor at the HIV clinic the Lawson Unit at the Royal Sussex County Hospital in Brighton and was instrumental in improving HIV services in the city. After he died aged 50 in 2015 a foundation was set up to carry on his work and spearhead the "Towards Zero" HIV movement. Since then, the Martin Fisher Foundation has managed to meet and exceed targets to bring down new HIV diagnoses, posting Brighton as the first "Fast Track City" in Britain joining a global partnership of 90 cities to end HIV as a public health threat. The MFF has also opened vending machines with HIV/sexual health tests around the city.
